We’re delighted to welcome Lissa Evans — award-nominated novelist and producer of some of the UK’s best-loved comedy shows — to this year’s Isle of Wight Literary Festival.
As a producer, Lissa worked on Room 101, Have I Got News for You, and most famously, the second and third series of the cult hit Father Ted. For three years she hovered over every detail — from lustful rabbits to runaway milk-floats — helping to create one of television’s most cherished comedies.
📖 Her latest book, Picnic on Craggy Island, is a warm, witty and affectionate memoir of her time behind the scenes of Father Ted. As Graham Norton says:
“What a treat – it brought the whole experience flooding back. A feast for fans of the show or indeed anyone interested in the creative chaos of making television.”
✨ Lissa is also the acclaimed author of several bestselling novels, including Old Baggage, Crooked Heart, and Their Finest Hour and a Half (adapted into the hit film Their Finest). Her most recent novel, Small Bomb at Dimperley, first published in 2024 and newly released in paperback, has been praised as “a deeply pleasurable postwar tale” (Guardian) and “an absolute joy to read” (The Times).
Join us for an entertaining and wide-ranging session, as Lissa shares stories from the world of classic comedy and her richly imagined fiction.
